Frocks on Bikes
What is Frocks on Bikes?
Frocks on Bikes began in Wellington in 2008 at a 'Go by Bike Day' event at Civic Square. Amidst the lycra-clad males were a handful of women who were dressed like they were just going to work - because they were! They were drawn to each other and got chatting.. ''why aren't there many of us??' They figured they were just women who enjoyed the freedom and convenience that goes hand in hand with riding and wanted to encourage other women to be like them and create a new cycling 'culture'. So, they swapped numbers and Frocks on Bikes was born. There are now several Frocks on Bikes 'Flocks' across NZ and Australia. Ex RLC employee, Kylie Laing brought Frocks on Bikes to Rotorua soon after it was launched in Wellington and has been with RLC ever since. Frocks on Bikes events are subsidised by both NZTA and RLC funds, as introducing regular people to sustainable modes of travel and showing off our cycling facilities ticks all the strategic boxes for NZTA and is also in line with Rotorua's 2030 vision!
