Ngongotaha Cycleway to Skyline MTB Park
Status: On hold
The work linking the Ngongotaha Cycleway to the end of Barnard Rd has now been put out to tender and the work will be completed next year. The section along Barnard Rd and Darroch St will at this stage will not be progressed for some time.
Thank you to those who have provided feedback previously on this link of the CyWay network and to those who attended our community consultation evening on 17 August 2016.
At the request of those who attended the community consultation evening we have now developed two concepts for your consideration and ask again for you to submit feedback on which concept option you prefer.
Both options will be along Darroch Street, it is the level of infrastructure along this route that we considering.
Please note the section through the reserve is the same for both concepts.
Remember our goal is to make this link a desirable cycle route for families and new users (those that are not confident cycling on a road). Therefore it is important that what we choose creates a quieter residential street environment where new users feel safe enough to ride on the road.
The Ngongotaha Cycle Link will be an off-road shared use path which will connect the northern-most part of our urban district to the CBD. It will be a safe biking route for commuters and an attractive recreational route for families wanting to enjoy a picnic at the lake or an outing to Ngongotaha village.
There are three projects being considered for this link:
- An extension of the existing path from Taui Street to the Reeme Street Reserve
- Improvement actions to make the path safer and more attractive to families and commuters
- An extension of the existing path from Lake Road to Pukuatua Street, along existing rail reserve
We want to know what you think of the three proposed projects
